Who is eligible to become a member?

Membership in the League of Women Voters is open to all persons (men and women, citizens and noncitizens) of at least 16 years of age. Associate non-voting membership is open to those under 16 years of age.

Why should I join?

  • Become more knowledgeable. You will gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics.
  • Contribute to your community. Through participation in League projects, you will contribute valuable service to the community.
  • Broaden your skills. You will discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community.
  • Make friends and contacts. As you meet others in League who share your interests, you will make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships.

How much time will I be expected to give?

That’s up to you! Some members choose to support the League with their annual dues only. Your membership alone gives the League the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change.

However, most choose to attend monthly programs, join a committee or a study group, or attend community forums and government meetings. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or listening to a panel of experts at a meeting or just reading about them in one of our publications.

What do I get?

Three memberships in one. When you join a local League you automatically become a member of the state and national Leagues. That’s three League memberships for one annual dues amount.

National benefits. Add your voice to a powerful force of members from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong.

State communications. Receive state legislative updates, action alerts, and our weekly e-blast, “VOTER Notes.”

Local involvement. The local League offers you opportunities to study issues and develop position statements, advocate on those issues, register voters, attend and observe government in action, convene candidate forums, and become a more active member of your community. You will receive the LWV of Great Bend newsletter, “Voter” which is usually published 10 times each year.
